The Back Blog
More than one hundred years ago Lourdes, was a small town of 4,000 people in a little frequented part of South-West France. Today it’s more than three times that size; almost a million pilgrims visited each year and its name is known throughout the world. Little Bernadette Soubirous, the daughter of a peasant to whom appeared the Apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary, at Lourdes, is now loved and revered as Saint Bernadette. This novel is based on actual events and tells in simple terms the story of the little girl who returned day after day to the grotto to silently adore ‘The Lady’ who appeared to her there; the lady for whose divinity she never made a claim, whose presence it never occurred to her to call a miracle.
It draws the reader back in time to the mid 1800’s, a rare insight into the challenges they faced with French Authorities leading up to the ‘Apparitions’ of the Blessed Virgin of Lourdes, and how it changed lives; their faith unshakable and their courage admirable.
The Original version printed in 1941, was written by Franz Werfel, not a Catholic but a Jew, who vowed that if his journey was safely completed, while escaping from Europe During WWII, he would write this book as an offering of thanks. His pledge fulfilled.
This re-publication by Anne Lucy Gelicrisio (an Australian living in Paris), is an offering of thanks to Franz and to GOD. It has been specifically edited to include the many miracles that are held in the archives of the French Government Tourist Office and of the Catholic Church; the sudden cures to life threatening illnesses that doctors deemed incurable
The science of God is not something that man and money can explain.
